  • Lead the growth strategy for our Global & Corporate mid-market new business targets
  • Opportunity for a proven leader to lead a high-performing national sales team
  • Full time permanent opportunity

Business Development Director - Global & Corporate (Mid Market)

Global & Corporate is a core client segment within Aon Australia, specialising in the provision of exceptional Insurance and Risk Advisory Services to a broad portfolio of privately owned, publicly listed and government organisations including a significant number of ASX-listed companies and multinationals.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced senior sales leader to join our team. This role involves managing a group of highly motivated Business Development Executives who are compensated through a base salary and a sales incentive plan. The Business Development Director will oversee the daily operations of the sales desk, ensuring that the team meets their targets while also achieving their own sales goals.

Aon is in the business of better decisions

At Aon, we shape decisions for the better to protect and enrich the lives of people around the world. As an organisation, we are united through trust as one inclusive, diverse team, and we are passionate about helping our colleagues and clients succeed.

What the day will look like

As a Business Development Director, you will develop and lead the segment’s growth strategy for our mid-market new business targets, across a range of industry sectors, including several sectors for which Aon has developed a successful, and tailored value proposition. Other key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee day-to-day activity of the sales desk, ensuring efficient and effective performance;
  • Achieve personal sales targets and contribute to the overall success of the team;
  • Foster a collaborative, and high-performance culture within the team. Whilst driving an ambitious team you will also need to ensure that the team’s behaviours are in line with Aon’s “United” and inclusive culture;
  • Drive a robust, disciplined and accurate sales pipeline that is aligned to delivering on the team’s sales targets;
  • Work across the firm and our marketing team from lead generation to tenders and pitch presentations to devise campaigns and insights;
  • Develop and implement sales strategies to drive growth in the middle market of the Australian economy, targeting companies with sales turnover between circa. A$75 million to circa. A$750 million;
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with prospective clients, understanding their needs and providing tailored solutions;
  • Deal with other sales leaders throughout Aon to ensure the overall sales community is highly connected and collaborative;
  • Stay informed about industry trends and market conditions to identify new business opportunities;
  • Network throughout the firm to maximise Aon's broader suite of products and solutions;
  • Embrace and devise sales training opportunities to ensure the team is focussed on best practice.

How this opportunity is different

As an Aon colleague, you will never be limited by your job title. Instead, you will learn and grow alongside some of the most talented people in the business, who genuinely want you to be the best version of yourself.

A critical aspect of the role includes face to face client engagement, including collaborating and interacting with the leadership and broader Aon teams. Whilst the role offers hybrid working, it is anticipated that majority of your working time would be onsite at the designated Aon office.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

You will have strong solution / insurance product expertise and a willingness to develop a solid understanding of the core products and solutions that “middle-market” sized Australian businesses typically require. You will lead your team in acquiring the same level of knowledge. Other key requirements include:

  • Proven experience in a senior sales leadership role, preferably within the insurance or risk management industry;
  • Great interpersonal skills, high emotional intelligence (EQ), and a resilient attitude;
  • A strong understanding of Aon's core products and solutions;
  • Ability to manage and motivate a team to achieve high performance;
  • Strong networking skills and the ability to build relationships across the firm;
  • Strategic problem solver with the ability to develop and implement effective sales strategies;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to mentor the team in these areas.

How we support our colleagues

In addition to our comprehensive benefits package, we encourage a diverse workforce. Plus, our agile, inclusive environment allows you to manage your wellbeing and work/life balance, ensuring you can be your best self at Aon. Furthermore, all colleagues enjoy two “Global Wellbeing Days” each year, encouraging you to take time to focus on yourself.

Our continuous learning culture inspires and equips you to learn, share and grow, helping you achieve your fullest potential. As a result, at Aon, you are more connected, more relevant, and more valued.

Aon values an innovative, diverse workplace where all colleagues feel empowered to be their authentic selves. Aon is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace.
