Team Leader - Medical Claims 

We’re looking for a proactive, people-focused leader to drive excellence within our Medical Claims team. In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of supporting, developing, and training our team of assessors to exceed key performance indicators and uphold our service level agreements.

You’ll manage day-to-day operations, allocate tasks, and monitor performance to ensure our high standards are consistently met. You’ll play a critical role in fostering a culture of continuous improvement, actively leading initiatives that drive innovation and efficiency.

Teachers Health was created by teachers for teachers over 70 years ago and is the only health fund exclusively for the education community. As a not-for-profit health fund, we exist for our members covering the lives of over 400,000 teachers, education staff & their families.
  
What will you do? 
Some of your key responsibilities, but not limited to would be;

  • Daily management of the Medical team by planning, organising, monitoring and controlling the allocated work activities
  • Forecast and resource plan for incoming work items to ensure appropriate staff availability
  • Provide technical expertise and source appropriate resources so that overall team performance improves to match agreed targets
  • Provide a high standard of customer service by dealing with escalated enquiries from team members and/or THF Management
  • Monitor and audit work by quality assuring work processed, enquiries, and correspondence.
  • Ensure team is compliant with THF product information and operational policies and procedures
  • Contribute to PHI product design and benefit structures ensuring legislative compliance
  • Provide high quality customer service and effectively communicate to providers and external stakeholders
  • Resolve member and provider complaints, ombudsmen referrals, or escalated issues as required
  • Maintain and improve skill level of team members through training, coaching and feedback activities
  • Maintain currency in HAMBS/Ensure system and relevant THF in-house technology applications (e.g. Word, Excel, E5 and ProMapp) with a view to improve where applicable
  • Create and support continuous improvement initiatives that align with business plan and strategy

  What are we looking for?

  • Minimum 2 years supervisory or leadership experience 
  • Certificate IV in Business, Management or Equivalent
  • Claims/Membership processing experience within the Private Health Insurance industry (desirable)
  • Ability to provide guidance and feedback to team and individuals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
