Project Engineer - Mechanical

The Square Kilometre Array Observatory (SKAO) project is an international effort supported by 16 countries to build the world’s largest radio telescopes, led by the SKAO. 
 

Ventia has been awarded a significant part of the contract and is leveraging our telecommunications capabilities for this exciting project. 

Our scope includes the provision of power and fibre networks, and the design and commission of a Central Processing Facility (CPF) and Remote Processing Facilities (RPF) at the Australian site. The Project Engineer - Mechanical will be an integral link to the success of our business.

This position will involve all aspects of the project, starting in Welshpool and then transitioning to commissioning the Central Processing Facility at Boolardy Station, transitioning to a 2/1 FIFO roster approximately March 2025.

About the role:

  • Oversee the design, installation, and coordination of HVAC systems, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards
  • Manage and coordinate HVAC subcontractors, ensuring timely completion, quality control, and adherence to safety regulations
  • Collaborate with the design and planning teams to ensure HVAC activities are aligned with the project schedule and resolve any potential delays
  • Review and validate HVAC designs, drawings, and technical documents to ensure accurate implementation
  • Coordinate testing and commissioning activities for HVAC systems, working with relevant teams to ensure proper system performance
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation and provide regular updates to the project management team regarding progress, costs, and challenges

About you:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Proven experience in mechanical systems installation and structural assembly in large scale projects
  • Expertise in project engineering processes, including design review, subcontractor coordination, scheduling, and budget control
  • Ability to interpret technical designs including P&IDs, and control diagrams
  • Hands-on experience with testing and commissioning of LV systems and instrumentation
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards, codes, and safety regulations for electrical installations
