Job no: 1111

Category: Maintenance, Operations & Reliability

Join our team of 4,000 energetic employees working across WA to supply and manage water, ultimately benefiting the lives of our communities and environment.

When our workplace spans across 2.6 million square kilometres, the career options are endless.

  • Fixed Term Civil Operator position in scenic Port Hedland
  • Salary of $75,185 - $82,120 + super + location allowance
  • Gain a nationally recognised qualifications (Certification II and III in NWP) – we pay!
  • Friendly work / life balance – No FIFO – home every evening

Enjoy squeaky white-sand beaches, national parks & clear blue ocean water!

Kick start your new career as a Civil Operator in the scenic Pilbara Region and enjoy the low and calm beaches, fishing, crabbing, whale watching or turtle nesting. Port Hedland also excellent for raising a new family.

Not only will you add a nationally recognised qualification to your belt (which we pay for), you’ll also learn a set of extra skills that could have you on your way to a senior technical or leadership role.

Sounds good, but how do you get a foot in the water industry door?... It’s relatively straightforward. All you need is an interest for learning new things and a love of the outdoors.

What does a Water Operator do?

Picture a plumber fixing a burst pipe in your house. Now think about a leaking pipe in the street.

Same problem. The only difference is you’re keeping your community’s water supply running.

As a Water Operator, you’re regularly outdoors. You’re digging trenches, inspecting pipelines, and repairing broken water services.

You’re learning a collection of skills that can set you on your way to a technical, management or leadership role.

Your main concern is keeping the water supply network running. That’s finding and fixing faults on pipes and joints.

It’s upgrading the water supply network and it’s understanding the end-to-end water cycle and how water networks help your local community.

You will be playing a big part in maintaining some of the 56,800km of pipelines that stretch across WA.

Sounds good, what’s in it for me?

Your full-time roster will consist of a 9-day fortnight, meaning every second week you will have a 3-day weekend (RDO) to enjoy doing the things you love.

Other benefits include but are not limited to:

  • Flexible working
  • 17.5% extra pay when taking annual leave
  • Annual leave travel concession
  • Wellness leave days
  • Pro-rata access to long service leave after three years of continuous service
  • Purchased leave options including working for four years at 80% salary and then taking the fifth year off as paid
  • Professional development programs, and more

Mix in a supportive, family-friendly culture, a healthy starting salary, and you will have just found yourself a career with Water Corporation.

What you’ll need to apply

You will be doing some driving, so a WA MR class driver’s licence will be essential. If you’ve got a high-risk licence, confined space cert and/or a construction white card, you’ve probably got some experience working outdoors. That’s a good thing.

No water experience? No problem. It is our opportunity to develop you into a confident and expert operator.
