Snowy Hydro is a dynamic, integrated energy business that has been providing on-demand, reliable energy to Australia for generations. Snowy Hydro owns and operates a powerful combination of generation assets, including the mighty Snowy Mountains Scheme, gas and diesel plants, and contracted wind and solar energy. We also provide electricity and gas to over 1 million retail customers through our retail brands Red Energy and Lumo Energy. Snowy 2.0 is Australia's largest committed renewable energy project. This nation-building project will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come.

The role:

Our growing Weather and Water team is seeking a Water Policy Advisor to provide advice on water management matters relevant to South-East Australia to ensure that interactions with the Snowy Scheme are understood and business interests are well represented. Snowy Hydro operates at the nexus of the water and energy industries, providing long term reliability and critical services to both.

Reporting to the Manager Water Policy and Planning, this permanent, full time role is preferably based in Cooma, NSW with flexibility to be based in other major cities on the East Coast.

Your key responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Maintain familiarity with current and past legislation, licences, policies and procedures related to Snowy Hydro's water operations
  • Review relevant regulatory change proposals to identify risks and opportunities
  • Conduct research, analysis and option studies to understand topical issues
  • Develop strategies and proposals in line with business expectations to support decision making
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Snowy Hydro's Annual Water Operating Plan
  • Establish relationships and work closely with external water agencies, including Commonwealth, and NSW, VIC and SA state governments

We're looking for someone with:

  • A Bachelor Degree in a relevant field (i.e. law, policy, natural resource management, environmental science or engineering)
  • 2+ years experience in water policy, planning or related field
  • An understanding of state and federal water legislation
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Demonstrated ability to influence people and outcomes with stakeholder management skills
